    Default Winick Talks Batman

Newsarama.com recently sat down with Batman writer Judd Winick, to talk with him about Dick Grayson as Batman. You can check out an excerpt from the article below. After reading this, head over to Newsarama via the link above and read the entire thing :)
Nrama: You'll be leaving the title for six months and then coming back? Are you taking a break?

Winick: Yeah, leaving is sort of a misnomer. I haven't actually stopped. Basically, I'm continuing to write the title; they're just coming out later. Mark is going over to JLA, so there's still some discussion about who's going to be drawing Batman next. But it's not so much that I'm leaving. I know where Tony's going and he knows where I'm going to end up in the next story.

The next major arc I do is somewhat self-contained and quick. It takes place over a short period of time. I'm still working on it, so it's between five and six issues. No, it's not a break so much as Tony's coming in to do his arc while I'm working on the next one. We're getting a major jump on things.

Nrama: Are there seeds planted now for what you're planning to do in the future?

Winick: Yes, there are a few things. But this is a complete arc. Things are resolved by the end of it. There are many seeds planted for the future, but it's a complete arc with a beginning, middle and end.

We're also planning now for some rather big-picture things for Batman that are coming further down the road.

This is my favourite part :
I'd say first and foremost, Dick's playing a role. It's been discussed for years that actually, Bruce Wayne is the disguise and Batman is the man. In this case, he's many times removed. Dick Grayson is not Batman.
Some people over at DC Batman boards wont admit that Dick is not Batman, dont get me wrong, the current stories are good and all but there is only one Batman and thats Bruce.

Totally agree! And saying that, I do like the departure of Bruce for awhile. It gives the Bat books a little something different. I do eventually want Bruce back though.

I agree as well. Remember in Batman Beyond when Bruce Wayne thinks he's going crazy because he hears a voice in his head. He only realizes he's not actually hearing a voice inside when the voice called him Bruce...he said that's not what he calls himself.
From far away you look like and idiot, but when I get close I'm sure!

I agree as well, There is only one Batman, but Dick is the only one that could fill in. I just hope when Bruce comes back they don't kill off DG. I would be extremely pissed, I like the character of Nightwing, and Dick is my second favorite DC character. They already screwed with my favorite and ruined him for a few years, please don't ruin Nightwing.

Dont worry, I am pretty sure they wont kill DG, Didio wanted to do it during Infinite Crisis but editorial made him change his mind, so I dont think he will try to do anything similar anytime soon.
On the other hand, I am not really sure what will they do with him once Bruce comes back. They have Chris Kent as Nightwing in action comics, so they will have to get rid of him in order to avoid having two Nighwings at once.

I think Chris Kent will be the ultimate sacrifice in the climax of the New Krypton storyline... I don't think that will be a problem

I dont read Action Comics, but by the looks of it not many readers like Chris, so yeah I agree that it wont be a problem.
