    Default The JLA Monthly

Easily the top selling monthly (not limited series) at DC month in and month out, and the only one really competing with Marvel's top ten selling dominance. Not that I don't like McDuffie, I do, but this isn't his best stuff to me. It's a good book, and I'm glad Benes hasn't needed a fill in artist for a while, but after the lackluster Countdown tie-ins and just an OK showing from the writer, why does the book sell so darn well?

Because you get the main guys in one comic each month. This comic has sooo much potential but, is wasted with the current writer. IMO...

Well, that's the question. How can the book have that kind of numbers even though it's not that good? The stars can't be it alone, look at the JLA book before it was cancelled right before infinite crisis. It had all the stars, but ever since Waid left the book, the numbers went into a decline that it could never get out of. Morrison and Waid were the only writers that kept it selling as well as it should.
I mean, there's no reason that JLA shoud be beating Batman or Detective, two titles with strong characters but better writing, not to mention the Batman RIP hype. JLA's got no hype or consistency, and I feel like the big guns can't be the only reason.

I see your point and I agree.

I only get JLA in hopes that it will get better. But what is really going all out month after month is JSA. Great characters, great story, great art. Its an all rounded book with a bigger storyline coming our way.

JLA just is laking the depth and DCU spanning storylines needed for such a big team book. Maybe if they dial back the membership to a couple heavy hitters and more B and C heroes the book could develope better characterisation and stories with some impact.

Batman delivers that every year as a series.

Ive been a JLA fan since the mid 70's, so Ive seen the good, bad, and ugly, but Ive also been buying the current series in hopes that it will get better. There have been a few high points, but for the most part it seems to wandering around aimlessly. I would love to see the return of the Atom and Aquaman( the originals), and more epic storylines. (sigh) I guess I just miss Dick Dillin...............

YES! That was by far the best era for the League. That's what got me into collecting comics. I miss the old Dick Dillin days, and nothing has come close since.

My favorite era was Giffen/Maguire era. My first JLA book was issue 215 entitled "The Bigger they are..." I read that and fell in love with it. My favorite book since. Like I said earlier though, the Maguire era was the best IMO... After Giffen left it went down fast. I wasn't even all that impressed with the JLA relaunch. The stories were too "fairy taleish..."
