Batman: Under The Red Hood Review
ive been waitin for this movie to come out , since last year... and i got to
say that im not disapointed with the end result.. i love the animaton style in
it, and the voice actin. Ackles's voice matches perfectly with Jason Todd's
character. i like the Batman's voice in this too. i also like how they made Bruce look like a combination of his face, from Under the Hood comics and BTAS... at first before the movie
came out, i wasnt feelin that they cast Harris as Dick Grayson... although i
prefered Loren Lester as Grayson, i have to say that after seein this movie, i
think that Harris did a great job, at capturin Grayson's attitude and
personality. the Joker and Black Mask were great, i liked the
Joker's look in this (it reminded me of Ledger's version for some reason...
i think it was the face and dark circle eyes).. Black Mask had a great
personality...even though Mr. Timm's people made him look, like Tony
Montana with a skull mask... Black Mask still kept his gritty attitude, and vibe. also im glad that THERE WAS NO ROMANTIC CRAP IN THIS.... more than most movies, feel that they have to throw in romance, or else the movie wouldnt work...i hate havin romantic
media, tryin to be forced on me...in almost every movie or show that i see... im
glad that Timm's people didnt do this...
i like how they kept some of the things, similar to Nolan/Goyer's version of
the Batman reality. in this movie Gotham looks similar to the Nolan/Goyer
Gotham... the Batmobile was the Nolan/Goyer version, Gordon looked like Gary
Oldman's take drawn by Miller, also Ras Al Ghul's castle was at the top of the hill like in Begins...and the GCPD cars were like the Nolan/Goyer movies. i liked the violence in this, and all the action and explosions. best of all i liked how Timm's people kept the same
converstion, word for word from the last scene in Batman 650, near the end... especially the conversation that Jason and Bruce had, when they come face to face and vent about the past... also Joker's taunt about takin pictures with the crowbar hahaha... (i got a good laugh from that part, when i read 650 back in 2006, and now after seein it in the movie). and i like how at the end, when Bruce tells Alfred (who was finally given hair in animation) that Jason's return doesnt change anythin.... this is also like in the comic books.
there were only a few minor things, that i didnt like about this movie...
1. is that they gave the teen Jason the second Drake costume.. i know that Mr.
Timm's people created the costume, back in 1997 for the second series, and then
the comics adopted the look for Drake... but i was hopin that they gave Jason
his red and green look, also as a teen. this is the second time that they give
a "Drake costume" to a another Robin... the first time bein back in BTAS when
Timm's people made Grayson use the first Drake suit, instead of his original
Robin suit. but with all that said, im glad that Timm's people are startin to
lose the "Original Robin Suit phobia", within their animations.
2. whenever Black Mask's men were gettin punched out, or killed, or set on fire,
the damn female assistant was never harmed... why wasnt she?? is it cause shes a woman??? haha so what... and no, im not a misogynist... but its just that in The Batman's world, theres no special treatment of genders... people get bumped no matter what age or gender they are (look at what happend to Jason back in the 80s, and to Magpie just a few years ago)... maybe next time shell get punched out by Black Mask or get sent off by the Joker...equality for both sexes please...
3. there wasnt much profanity or lots of blood in it... the comics are more
violent and profane comapred to the movies... this story is really a R-rated
story, if it ever gets done the way of the comics... maybe one day they
will...
4. they never showed Jason's lifeless body as bein beat up or severely
bruised.... the dead body had no bruises at all in this movie... and the part when they dig up the grave, (before that Bruce and Alfred even know that its a fake body)... Bruce and Alfred act like its normal, for a corpse to be in perfect condition with no decomposition, after 5 years of bein in the ground... (hey Bats are you gettin rusty, on your forensics??) yea i know that in some rare cases, there are some bodies that remain preserved even 40 years after burial...but thats not the case here with Jason... in the comics his body was extremely beat up, almost beyond recognition.... the Joker did beat him down with a crowbar, and then blew his ass up...so the damage is understandable... also in the books i think that there was a part, where Bruce even claims that Jason's body was startin to decay, before he was even buried... but the movie didnt include, any of the graphic detail of the decayin body...
5. the movie couldve been a little longer...haha.
after all this said, this is my favorie DCU original animation movie to date.. with "Two Earths" right behind it... it would be cool if Mr. Timm released a director's cut of this film... similar to Return of The Joker.. and include more gore and profanity in it... but i can only hope haha.
so what did you guys think, of this film?
