Article: Ask Mattel 5/1/10
-
the only problem that i have with Matty.com is, that they never seem to restock on items.... once an items sells out, thats it.... what i dont undertsand is, if they are still makin more of the product, then why dont they restock them online?

They basically put them online and sell them for two weeks (and might for longer if they felt sales were brisk enough) but they don't want to take up warehouse space, so they send out unsold product to be sent out when ordered by etailers or retailers.
My issue with Mattycollector is that they leave everything up, even after everything is sold out. If your Web site is designed to sell things, then leaving products up that will never be sold again just aggravates people who may just be getting into the line. They need to have a "for sale" and "archive" section. Hopefully they'll decide to sell individual figures on Mattycollector or the general Mattel store.
Oh, and I still don't understand their rationale for the exclusives. Why piss off a vast majority of your collectors to make an exclusive few (and many, many scalpers) happy? It's not like SDCC isn't packed with people, and Mattel is just creating crowding/spending all day in line issues.
