Our second spirit of wave 12 is The Spectre, spirit of wrath. This figure is a 70/30 variant, and I will be reviewing the rarer glow-in-the dark version. The overall look of the collared cape and the hood works quite well, even though the head is a completely different piece. There is pretty good up-and-down articulation, though the collar and back of the hood do restrict movement a bit. The rest of the uniform (what little he wears, anyway) is pretty plain and the shoes and gloves are a slightly different finish and shade of green than the trunks, which also had a little blurry paint. The Spectre features two apprehensive, ghostly open hands that allow him to appear to be reaching out to you:
Or calling you a loser:
Or, for you wrestling fans, about to execute the Diamond Cutter:
A lot of people are split on the idea of glow-in-the-dark figures, and I can understand why. The Spectre looks quite fake and plasticy, with a semi-translucent green-white that makes it look more like an action figure than a representation of the character. However, it is still pretty cool:
The Spectre comes with a collector pin and the right arm of Darkseid (plus the bonus “Killing Glove”), so you’ll need to pick one up to complete the evil ruler of Apokolips. Even if I had the painted white version, I have a feeling I’d be awarding the same score, as The Spectre is another JSA-era character to check off, but is a little plain.
